The excursion leaves at 2:30 from near the ExWi: gather outside the University Mensa from 2:20. The coach will take us, via Lake Thun and Interlaken, to Lauterbrunnen, a deep alpine valley containing a number of spectacular waterfalls. We will visit one particularly spectacular set of waterfalls, the Trummelbach falls: these are a series of ten underground falls (the only such falls accessible in Europe) which can be reached by an elevator and man-made tunnels. The falls are fed by glacial meltwater from the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, and flow at up to 20,000 liters per second. To reach the falls inside the mountain there are some stairs to climb, but it is not arduous.After enjoying the valley, if weather permits we will make a stop in Oberhofen, a picturesque town on the shores of lake Thun, where if visibility is good we will have an excellent view of the alps. We will arrive back in Bern, for the social dinner, at 7:30, or earlier if weather is bad. - Social Dinner
